The Oxfordshire County UNISON retired members group hold a meeting on the first Monday of every month, except for bank holidays and then it is the second Monday of the month. Starting at 10.30am and finishing at 12.30pm, the meeting is held at County Hall in Oxford city centre. Just right to the reception desk at County Hall there is an illuminated notice board telling one the room in which meetings are held. If you for any reason you need help with directions, the receptionists are very helpful.
We are a friendly little group. You are welcomed with tea/coffee and biscuits and then there is a speaker, usually very interesting and informative. After that there is an agenda and minutes of the last meeting. The second item on the agenda is matters arising, if you wish to speak on any matter, you mention it to the chair before the meeting the starts.
If for any reason you cannot get to our meetings please let Janet Cullup know, she will always give your apologies. But if you cannot get to the meeting permanently, she can keep you informed of up and coming events monthly after each meeting via email.
If you would like to join the retired members emailing list, please email Janet Cullup at firstname.lastname@example.org authorising that she can send you updates on what the group are up too, also in the process giving her your email address to add to the list.
UNISON works to raise awareness of issues which concern older people and to influence decision makers. Our priorities include:
- Pensioner poverty
- Health care and age discrimination
- Isolation and mobility issues
We believe our union should reflect the society we live and work in. There are more than 10 million elderly people in the UK. Retired and working members have a shared interest in obtaining decent incomes in older age, a universal health service and the creation of a civilised society.
Today’s workers are tomorrow’s pensioners and UNISON’s members work in public services on which many older people rely.
