Thank you for your interest in becoming a UNISON Rep. UNISON depend on volunteers in the workplace to be the first port of call for members and the Oxfordshire County UNISON Branch aim to support and mentor our reps so that they and the members get the best from having a steward in the workplace. The role is a broad one and we like to encourage our reps to start offering whatever level of support to members that they feel comfortable with and we would encourage anybody interested to have a go.
To formalise your position you will need to complete some forms first. You can download the necessary forms from this website.
Once you have downloaded these forms you will need to put the ‘Election Notice Board Form” on your workplace notice board, somewhere that members can access it for a minimum of 2 weeks. If somebody wishes to stand against you will need to contact the branch on 01865 815990. A UNISON officer will suggest a role share or appointment of one of the runners into an alternative role such as Learning Rep or Health and Safety Rep. If members are not agreeable to this then a selection will be decided by a ballot of members in the workplace, a process which the branch will support.
Once this has been decided or if nobody else wishes to stand against you then you will need to complete the “Notification of Workplace Representative form” and “Election form”.
All forms then need to be returned to Anya Greig, UNISON Office, County Hall, 1 New Road, Oxford, OX1 1ND.
Once we have received the forms and have processed them, a letter acknowledging your role will be sent out which you can show to your employer/ line manager.

There is fantastic training available through Unison which you can find out more about by clicking on the ‘Learning and Development’ button on this website. Once we have received your forms we will write to you about training opportunities.. If you would like someone to visit your work place to discuss any aspect of being a rep please contact Anya Greig via email or on 01865 815990.
