Oxford Levellers’ Commemoration
Sunday 18 September 2022, Gloucester Green, Oxford at 2pm
The levellers represented the popular opposition to the junta
that had seized power and the corruption in parliament and
were for a true peoples’ republic.
Their sacrifice will be remembered and celebrated in speech
and song, followed by a social at a local venue – tbc.
Walking tour
The commemoration will be preceded by – a radical walking tour – presented by Ciaran Walsh.
800 years of social struggle in Oxford
A radical drift that pulls the curtain aside and reveals the social turmoil, revolts, riots and revolutionary moments in the history of oxford including a commemoration of the levellers soldiers who laid down their lives in September 1649 in oxford for the cause of democracy, equality and freedom and against imperialist aggression!
Meet 12 noon on the steps of the Clarendon Building,(Bodleian library), Broad street. Finish by 2pm at Gloucester Green.
